Weil, Gotshal & Manges is one of the world's top law firms. The firm's primary specialties are: Corporate, Litigation, Regulatory, Tax and Restructuring.
The firm was the lead attorney overseeing the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, the largest corporate bankruptcy ever.
Weil, Gotshal & Manges was founded
in New York City in 1931. In the ensuing years, the firm has
evolved into one of the largest and most highly regarded law
firms in the world. Clients include ExxonMobil, Whirlpool, Cisco
Systems and Credit Suisse First Boston.
In 1968, Weil moved to the firm's current New York headquarters, in midtown Manhattan at the GM Building overlooking New York City's Central Park. In 1975, the firm formally opened its first office outside of New York, in Washington DC. The Washington office now houses approximately 80 lawyers in practices including antitrust, environmental law, international trade, public policy, corporate, banking, litigation/regulatory, real estate, securities and tax. The Miami office followed, opening its doors in 1981. The firm established its Texas offices in Houston, Dallas and Austin in 1985, 1987, and 2002 respectively
In the early 1990s, Weil Gotshal became
the first major national US law firm to open a Silicon Valley
office, which offers a comprehensive technology and intellectual
property-oriented corporate and litigation practice. In 2002,
Weil opened its Boston office and in 2005, opened a Providence
office.
Asian offices include Shanghai, Hong Kong and Beijing.
The firm has approximately 300 partners.
In June, the firm reportedly laid off 60 attorneys, 110 staff members and reduced pay for some partners due to slowdown in business.
