Vonage is one of the largest Voice Over
Internet Telephony (Voip) companies in the nation. In other words,
it provides phone calls over high-speed Internet connections
instead of traditional phone lines.
Vonage has been heavily advertising on
TV and online offering low-cost, unlimited phone service in the
U.S. and Canada for residential users starting at $24.99 per
month. All customers need are a high-speed cable modem or DSL
connection and a telephone adapter provided by Vonage. Most customers
can even keep their current phone number.
Service is available in most U.S. and Canadian
cities and includes coverage to 150 global markets. Vonage also
offers unlimited plans for small business at $49.99 per month.
Vonage was founded in January 2001 and
now has more than 1.8 million subscriber lines. CEO Jeffrey Citron
founded Vonage and is an experienced entrepreneur known for creating
the Island ECN stock trading network and Datek Holdings.
Vonage went public in May at $17 per share
