Trump Entertainment Resorts, Inc. is a gaming company that owns and operates two casino resorts in Atlantic City: The Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort and Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino. Both are located on the Boardwalk of Atlantic City.
The Taj Mahal has 2,010 rooms and suites, 189 gaming tables and 2,721 slot machines. Trump Plaza has 906 rooms and suites, 71 gaming tables and 1,688 slot machines.
Trump Resorts was founded by real estate mogul Donald J. Trump but he no longer is involved in casino operations. Trump is known for his flamboyant style and many real estate developments in New York City and nationwide along with his NBC reality show The Apprentice.
Trump Entertainment has never turned a profit and has seen revenues drop in Atlantic City over the past year with competition from new slot parlors in Philadelphia. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009 and emerged from bankruptcy in July, 2010.
In May 2011, Trump Entertainment sold the Trump Marina casino to Landry's Restaurants for $37.3 million. The casino is now called The Golden Nugget after undergoing major remodeling.
In 2011, The Taj Mahal had total revenues of $338.6 million and The Trump Plaza had revenues of $134.6 million. The company had a net loss of $6.16 million for all of 2011.
There were 2,600 employees at Taj Mahal at the end of 2011 and 1,100 at Trump Plaza.
The Trump Plaza Hotel was opened on May
26, 1984 on a central location at Mississippi Avenue on Atlantic
City's Boardwalk. Trump Marina Hotel opened in the marina district
of Atlantic City on June 19, 1985.
Trump Taj Mahal opened April 2, 1990 and
was then Atlantic City's most luxurious casino. It has 1,250
rooms including 237 suites.
The Trump Entertaiment Resorts company was formed in 2005 as a result of the bankruptcy restructuring of its predecessor Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts.
