History
The Knot was founded in 1996 by four colleagues:
David Liu, Carley Roney, Rob Fassino, and Michael Wolfson. With
a unique vision and funding from America Online, they set out
to reinvent the way couples plan their weddings. The Knot quickly
became the leading online wedding resource on AOL and a successful
offline brand, reaching millions of brides, grooms, and gift-givers
worldwide
The Knot was launched online in 1996 on
AOL and its own website in 1997. Shortly after securing seed
financing from America Online, the company secured additional
rounds of funding from industry giants Hummer Winblad Venture
Partners and QVC, Inc. In December 1999, The Knot raised $35
million in its initial public offering. And in February 2002
The Knot received additional backing from The May Company.
The company purchased WeddingChannel in
September 2006.
