Texas Roadhouse is a casual dining chain that operates 647 restaurants in 49 states and 10 countries, including 610 Texas Roadhouse restaurants, 34 Bubba's 33 restaurants and 3 Jaggers restaurants.
Most restaurants are company owned.
The menu at Texas Roadhouse offers steaks hand-cut daily in every restaurant and cooked to order over open gas-fired grills. There is also available a selection of ribs, fish, seafood, pork chops, chicken and vegetable plates, an assortment of hamburgers, salads and sandwiches. The majority of "entrees" include two made-from-scratch side items, and guests are offered a free unlimited supply of in-shell peanuts and made-from-scratch yeast rolls.
Restaurants feature a rustic southwestern
lodge décor accentuated with hand-painted murals, neon
signs, southwestern prints, rugs and artifacts, and jukeboxes,
which continuously play upbeat country hits.
The company launched Bubba's 33 restaurant in 2013 which offers pizza and hamburgers. There are now 25 locations open.
In 2020, the company reported revenues of $2.398 billion, a 13% decline, and net income of $31.25 million. Average unit volume was $4.64 million in 2020 at Texas Roadhouse restaurants, down 16.3%, due to Coronavirus closures.
Texas Roadhouse plans to open 25-30 restaurants in 2021.
Founder Kent Taylor passed away on March 18, 2021. The President of the company, Jerry Morgan was promoted to CEO.
History
It all began when founder Kent Taylor had
a vision of great steaks, killer ribs and ice-cold beer at a
price that families across America could afford. But the first
restaurant wasn't even opened in Texas.
The first Texas Roadhouse opened in Clarksville, IN on February 17th, 1993.
"We wanted to provide a place that
the whole family could enjoy," says Taylor. "Texas
Roadhouse is about a hearty, good meal with service that is friendly,
energetic, and enthusiastic. Life should be fun - so the workplace
needs to reflect that as well - and that is why we put our employees
first."
Founder Kent Taylor returned to the CEO position in August 2011 and passed away in March 2021.
