History Science Applications International was founded by Dr. J. Robert Beyster and a small group of scientists in La Jolla, CA in 1969. The company's first solid business base was established with the Defense Nuclear Agency (DNA) in 1970, performing sophisticated nuclear weapons effects calculations. This initial work grew to include other areas of weapons effects such as nuclear blast, simulation, and underground test instrumentation and measurements.
