The company operates and franchises Ruby Tuesday restaurants in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 11 foreign countries. As of March 4, 2008, the Company owned and operated 721 Ruby Tuesday restaurants, while domestic and international franchisees (including Hawaii) operated 169 and 52 restaurants, respectively. In fiscal 2007, Ruby Tuesday reported revenues of $1.41 billion and net income of $91.7 million. In 2008, the company expects to open 19 new restaurants along with 15-20 franchised openings. Ruby Tuesday has remodeled almost all of its restaurants over the past two years. Ruby Tuesday offers curbside to-go service where customers can park their car outside of restaurants and have food delivered to them ready to go. History The company was formed in 1972, when Sandy Beall and four of his fraternity buddies from the University of Tennessee opened the first Ruby Tuesday restaurant adjacent to the college campus in Knoxville. It was Sandy's dream to create a restaurant which offered great food at a great price in a fun, friendly atmosphere. The restaurant was named after a Rolling Stones song. The company was acquired by Morrison Restaurants Inc. in 1982 and changed its name to Ruby Tuesday Inc. in 1996. The company began franchising restaurants in 1997.
