Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was founded in 1824 and is one of the oldest engineering schools in the country.
The campus is located in Troy, NY, just north of Albany and 150 miles north of New York City.
There are 5,367 undergraduate students and 1,200 graduate students from 48 states and 67 countries.
Tuition for the 2008-09 school year is $36,950 with an additional $11,000 for room and board plus other expenses.
RPI’s Incubator Program for startup businesses was founded in 1980, making it one of the oldest U.S. incubators and the first U.S. incubator wholly sponsored and operated by a university.
RPI has 401 full-time faculty and 95 part-time. The university has instituted a hiring freeze and also laid off at least 98 workers in December 2008.
