The Company operates Ross Dress for Less ( "Ross "), the largest off-price apparel and home fashion chain in the United States with 1,097 locations in 33 states, the District of Columbia and Guam. Ross offers first-quality, in-season, name brand and designer apparel, accessories, footwear and home fashions for the entire family at everyday savings of 20% to 60% off department and specialty store regular prices. The Company also operates 108 dd's DISCOUNTS in eight states.

Brand name merchandise at Ross is priced 20% to 60% below most department and specialty store regular prices. At dd’s DISCOUNTS, the company sells more moderate brand name product and fashions that are priced 20% to 70% below most moderate department and discount store regular prices.

The company's buying offices are located in New York City and Los Angeles. The company has four distribution processing facilities–-two in California, one in Pennsylvania, and one in South Carolina.

History

In August 1982, six junior department stores in the San Francisco Bay Area were acquired and converted to the Ross Dress For Less off-price format.

Ross Stores went public with its IPO in August 1985, trading on Nasdaq under the symbol ROST. The Company expanded rapidly and ended fiscal 1986 with total sales of $534 million and 121 stores in 16 states.

New concept dd's DISCOUNTS was launched in 2004.

In 2011, Ross Dress for Less opened its 1,000th store in the San Francisco Bay Area and entered the Midwest region with 12 stores in the greater Chicago area.
