Ross Stores is the nation's second-largest chain of off-price
clothing and shoes. As of February 2, 2008, the Company operated
838 Ross Dress for Less stores in 27 states and Guam and 52 dd's
DISCOUNTS locations in California, Florida, Texas and Arizona.
Ross Stores offers first-quality, in-season,
name brand and designer apparel, accessories, footwear and home
fashions for the entire family at everyday savings of 20 to 60
percent off department and specialty store regular prices. dd's
DISCOUNTS features a more moderately-priced assortment of first-quality,
in-season, name brand apparel, accessories, footwear and home
fashions for the entire family at everyday savings of 20 to 70
percent off moderate department and discount store regular prices.
The company reported 2007 revenues of $6
billion.
History
Ross was incorporated in California in
1957. From 1957 to 1982, Ross operated as a small, family-operated
junior department store chain in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In August 1982, Stuart Moldaw, the company's Chairman Emeritus,
and a group of investors acquired the six-store chain and converted
the locations to the current off-price format.
The company went public on August 6, 1985.
