History

Ben and Bill Golub opened the first Central Market in Schenectady, NY in 1933 offering one-stop shopping. The brothers expanded with more stores in upstate New York and one in Massachusetts. The name was changed from Central Markets to Price Chopper in 1973. The company has continued to grow with acquisitions and openings of new stores.

Price Chopper introduced Fuel Advantage in 2007 which lets customers save 10 cents per gallon of gas at Sunoco stores with every $100 purchased at Price Chopper stores.

In 2013, the company opened a new flagship store in Latham, NY called Market Bistro featuring an expanded supermarket with fresh prepared foods, a cooking school and sit-down restaurant.
