Niche Media LLC publishes some of the nation's
most luxurious magazines targeted to the rich and famous in their
regional cities.
The company's flagship magazines include
Gotham in New York City, Hamptons for the east
end of Long Island, Los Angeles Confidential for LA and Ocean Drive in Miami. Other magazines include Art Basel for Miami Beach, Aspen Peak for the ski resort
area of Colorado, Boston Common for the Boston area, Philadelphia Style for the Philadelphia area, Michigan Avenue for Detroit and Capitol File for Washington DC.
The company is also responsible for the
sales and marketing of VEGAS and WYNN magazines in Las Vegas.
All of the magazines are known for their
large size (10 x12 inches), full-color glossy pages and celebrity
covers. The magazines are usually mailed free to high-income
individuals, in hotel rooms and also available on sale at newsstands.
The company is known for its glamourous parties catering to celebrities,
the wealthy and advertisers.
Gotham
magazine is published 10 times a year while Hamptons is
published weekly during the summer season. Los Angeles Confidential
is published 8 times per year and the other magazines are less
frequent.
The company says a majority of Niche Media
readers maintain at least $250,000 annual household incomes,
own homes valued at more than $1 million, and have liquid assets
in excess of $1 million.
Niche Media merged with Greenspun Media Group and Ocean Drive Media Group in 2007. The company reportedly restructured and laid off an undetermined number of employees in 2008. Greenspun Media Group of Las Vegas is the owner of Niche Media.
History
Jason Binn, CEO, founded Niche Media in
1998. Since its inception, Binn has successfully built an empire
that has cornered the regional publishing market with the country's
preeminent titles including Aspen Peak, Gotham, Hamptons,
Los Angeles Confidential, and launching in September 2005,
Boston Common and Capitol File. Binn is also a
co-founder (with Jerry Powers) of Ocean Drive magazine
in Miami. Ocean Drive is published by Sobe News, Inc.,
which is managed by Jerry Powers and of which Jason Binn is a
shareholder. SoBe also has a joint venture with GreenSpun Media
to publish Vegas magazine.
Binn began his foray into publishing in
1993. With the foresight to enter the burgeoning Miami market,
Jason Binn launched Ocean Drive with partner, Jerry Powers,
on a shoestring budget with only eighty pages. The magazine quickly
became a media sensation and today has worldwide distribution,
often maxing out at over four hundred pages.
Following that, Binn parlayed his success
in another niche market where he began publishing the then twenty-year-old
Hamptons magazine (1998.) Mirroring the success of Ocean
Drive, Binn recreated the magazine to reflect the mindset
of New York's jet setters, boosting ad revenues and book sizes
to an average of 200 pages weekly during the 16 week summer season.
Hamptons served as the springboard for Binn's Gotham
magazine (2001) which has lived up to its incredible expectations,
allowing Binn to lay claim to other coveted markets, Los Angeles
with Los Angeles Confidential (2002), Aspen with Aspen
Peak (2004), Boston with Boston Common (2005) and
Washington DC with Capitol File (2005).
