Messenger and free e-mail through Hotmail.
News is provided through MSNBC and financial
news and stock quotes are provided in partnership with CNBC.
Microsoft had joint ownership with NBC
in the cable network MSNBC but reportedly sold off its stake
last year. It still has an interest in the website MSNBC.
According to Nielsen/NetRatings, MSN was
the third most-visited search engine behind Google and Yahoo
with a 9.6% market share in July 2006.

MSN has launched a revamped search engine
called Windows Live that offers more powerful and accurate search
results to help it compete with Google. MSN is also introducing
its own advertising network to sell text ads next to search results.
