Morgan Stanley is one of the world's top
financial services companies. It is a leader in investment banking,
private wealth management, bond and stock trading. It also owns
the Discover Card network.

For fiscal 2007, Morgan Stanley reported
revenues of $28 billion, down from $33.9 billion in 2006. The
company has been hurt by mortgage-related problems. Net income
was $3.2 billion, down from $7.4 billion the previous year.
Morgan Stanley announced it would get a
$5 billion capital infusion from China Investment Corporation
to boost its finances.
The company announced it would cut 1,000
jobs from its mortgage operations this year.
Morgan Stanley reported total capital of
$782 billion under management at the end of November.
The company spun off the Discover Card
business in an IPO in 2007.
History
In 1935, Henry Morgan, Harold Stanley and
others left JP Morgan & Co. and Drexel & Co. to form
investment banking firm Morgan Stanley. In its first full year,
the firm achieved 24% market share of public stock offerings.
In 1941, Morgan Stanley joins the New York Stock Exchange and
entered the brokerage business.
In 1964, the company created the first
computer model for performing financial analysis. In 1967, a
Paris division was opened to pursue the growing European securities
market.
Morgan Stanley would establish a real estate
financing division in 1967 and created a Mergers and Acquisitions
division in 1971.
Morgan Stanley merged with Dean Witter,
Discover & Co. in 1997 to form a dominant force in securities
and asset management.
