McKesson is the world's leading healthcare services company. The company is the largest pharmaceutical distributor in the nation. The company is organized into three main groups:

McKesson Supply Solutions - The leading distributor of pharmaceutical and medical-surgical supplies and automated systems, products and services - and an industry leader in pharmacy management. It serves the entire healthcare community from retail institutions to integrated hospital systems to physician practices to long-term care facilities. Every day, the company distributes one-third of the medicines used in North America, supplying more than 40,000 U.S. healthcare locations from Wal-Mart to the Department of Veterans Affairs to community pharmacies.
McKesson Information Solutions - One of the largest providers of integrated information technology solutions to health enterprises nationally and internationally. The portfolio includes enterprise-wide patient care, clinical, financial and strategic management software solutions, as well as Internet-based and networking technologies and services, electronic commerce and outsourcing services to healthcare organizations.
McKesson Health Solutions - Focused on improving health outcomes and reducing costs. Using the Web and other technologies to facilitate real-time information exchange between patients, physicians and payors, it enables point-of-care decision making. The group also provides pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturers with a single source for cost-effective, outsourced programs and services spanning the entire pharmaceutical product lifecycle.

McKesson Corporation traces its roots back to 1833, when John McKesson and Charles Olcott opened a small drug import and wholesale shop in New York City's financial district. The Olcott & McKesson business thrived, providing clients botanical drugs -  herbs, roots, leaves, bark and vegetable extracts. Early on they brought Daniel Robbins on board and in 1853, after Olcott died, the company was renamed McKesson & Robbins.
