McCormick is the world's largest spice
company and also produces seasonings, flavors and other food
products for the entire food industry - from foodservice and
food processing businesses to retail outlets.
Headquartered near Baltimore, MD, McCormick
has facilities in Canada, Europe and around the globe with products
sold in more than 100 countries.
The consumer business provides spices,
herbs, extracts, proprietary seasoning blends, sauces and marinades
to retail outlets such as grocery, mass merchandise, and drug
retail outlets. In the U.S., consumer products are sold under
the McCormick brand. In Canada the brand is Club House, in the
U.K. it's Schwartz, and in France it's Ducros. In other markets
the McCormick brand name is primarily used. We have operations
in North America, Central America, Europe, Australia, and China.
Joint ventures are located in the U.S., Mexico, France, the Philippines
and Japan. From these operations, our products are sold throughout
the world.
The industrial business supplies products
worldwide to a significant majority of the top 100 food processors
and to restaurant chains, distributors, and warehouse clubs.
We have operations in North America, Europe, and the Asia/Pacific
region. Products include spices, blended seasonings, condiments,
coatings and compound flavors. While the McCormick name may not
be on the food package, our products are in a wide range of snack
foods, savory side dishes, desserts, beverages, confectionery
items, cereals, baked goods and more.
The company reported revenues of $3.3 billion in fiscal 2010 and net income of $370.2 million.
Alan Wilson, Chairman, President & CEO of the company, said, "In an economic environment that remains difficult in many of our major markets, we delivered strong financial performance that met or exceeded each of our financial goals for 2010. Our growth initiatives and operational achievements drove increases in both sales and profit. Interest in flavor continues to grow and consumers and customers rely on McCormick for great-tasting, high quality products. That's the essence of our business - we bring passion to flavor."
History
1889 -
McCormick & Company was started in Baltimore, in one room
and a cellar by 25-year-old Willoughby M. McCormick and his staff
of two girls and a boy. First products were root beer, flavoring
extracts, and fruit syrups and juices, sold under "Bee Brand"
and Silver Medal" trademarks; "Iron Glue" (Sticks
Everything But the Buyer) and Uncle Sam's Nerve and Bone Liniment"
(For Man Or Beast). Products were sold door-to-door: their motto
was "Make the Best - Someone Will Buy It."
McCormick stock was traded on the New York
Stock Exchange in 1999.
In 2008, the company acquired Lawry's, a well-known brand of seasoning blends and marinades.
