History
Lord and Taylor was originally founded in 1826 by Samuel Lord who opened a store on Catherine Street in Manhattan to sell women's clothing.
Lord and Taylor opened its flagship store on February 24, 1914 on Fifth Avenue between 38th and 39th streets. The store has been designated a NYC landmark.
The chain was acquired by May Department Stores in 1986. In 2005, May was acquired by Federated Department Stores, parent of Bloomingdale's and Macy's.
NRDC Equity Partners purchased Lord and Taylor for $1.2 billion in 2006.
