Companies include Laidlaw Education Services, Greyhound and Laidlaw Transit Services. Greyhound is the largest North American provider of bus transportation between cities, with 19,000 daily departures across the continent. The company also provides Greyhound PackageXpress in the United States and Greyhound Courier Service in Canada, as well as Greyhound Travel Services including: vacation packages, charters, sightseeing and shore services. Laidlaw Education Services is the largest school bus operator in North America. Each day 2 million students rely on Laidlaw Education Services to take them to and from school. The company was founded in 1924 when Robert Laidlaw launches a trucking service company in Ontario, Canada. In 1983, Laidlaw would enter the U.S. school bus sector. Laidlaw acquired Greyhound Canada in 1997 and the U.S. operations in 1998. For fiscal 2004, revenue was $4.63 billion and net income was $61.7 million. Updated July 9, 2005 |
