Hertz is the leading airport global car rental company, operating in 145 countries from over 11,555 corporate and licensee locations, including its subsidiaries Dollar, Firefly and Thrifty. The company offers cars, trucks and equipment for rent.

Hertz is the number one airport car rental brand in the U.S. and at 111 major airports in Europe, operating both corporate and licensee locations in cities and airports in North America, Europe, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand. In addition, the Company has licensee locations in cities and airports in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

Hertz acquired Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group in November 2012. Dollar and Thrifty brands have a network of approximately 1,400 locations in 75 countries.

Hertz also operates one of the world's largest equipment rental businesses, Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation, offering a diverse line of equipment, including tools and supplies, as well as new and used equipment for sale, to customers ranging from major industrial companies to local contractors and consumers from approximately 340 branches in the United States, Canada, China, France, Saudi Arabia and Spain.

The company also provides commercial fleet leasing and management services to corporate customers throughout the United States and Canada through Donlen, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hertz. Donlen is a fully integrated fleet management services provider with a comprehensive suite of product offerings ranging from leasing and managing vehicle fleets to providing other fleet management services to reduce fleet operating costs.

The company reported worldwide revenue of $10.8 billion in 2013, up from $9.0 billion. Net income was $394.0 million. U.S. car rentals generated $6.3 billion in revenue and international car rentals generated $2.3 billion.

Hertz announced in 2013 that the company will relocate its worldwide headquarters to Estero, FL (Lee County, near Bonita Springs and Fort Myers) from Park Ridge, NJ. More than 2,000 Hertz and Dollar Thrifty personnel will remain in New Jersey, including approximately 150 employees who currently work in Park Ridge. All other Park Ridge employees will be able to retain their current positions at the new headquarters, scheduled to be completed in early 2015.

John Tague was named new President and CEO of the company in November 2014.

History

Hertz began renting cars in 1918 and established the first national franchise car renting system in 1925.

In 1932, Hertz opened the first airport rent-a-car location at Chicago's Midway Airport.

Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation is formed in 1965.

Hertz moved its headquarters to New Jersey from mid-town Manhattan in 1988.

Ford acquired an ownership interest in Hertz in 1987. Hertz was sold by Ford in 2005 to private investors and went public on the NYSE in 2006.

In March 2013, Hertz launched the Firefly brand, which is a deep value brand for price conscious leisure travelers, in Europe. In August 2013, the company announced the expansion of the Firefly brand into the U.S. The company plans to have Firefly locations servicing local area airports in select U.S. and international leisure markets where other deep value brands have a significant presence.
