Even still, we took several actions to finish 2008 well capitalized and well prepared to deliver on our commitments to customers."

The company was founded In 1810 when a
group of Connecticut businessmen created the Hartford Fire Insurance
Company which insured homes and businesses from fire risk, a
major fear during this time.
