History
N.W. Harris came to Chicago in the late
1800's to help America expand westward. In 1882, he founded the
N.W. Harris & Co. It was established as a bank in 1907 as
Harris Trust and Savings Bank.
In 1960, the company merged with Chicago
National Bank. In 1972, the company restructured as Harris Bankcorp.
BMO Financial Group, then known as Bank
of Montreal, acquired Harris Bankcorp Inc. in 1984.
