History
William Hardee opened his first restaurant
in 1960 in North Carolina. Five months later, he had his first
franchisee and 200 restaurants by the end of the decade.
Hardee's would introduce fresh made biscuits
in the 1970s which became very popular and a trademark of the
restaurants today.
In the 1980s, Hardees would acquire the
650-unit Burger Chef chain and would exceed 2,000 restaurants.
CKE Restaurants would acquire the Hardee's
chain from Canadian company Imasco in 1997.
In 2003, Hardee's would pare down its menu
and focus on Thickburgers, juicy meaty hamburgers that weigh
from 1/3 to 2/3 pound.
