Hanesbrands Inc. is a consumer goods company that manufactures underwear and socks, including T-shirts, bras, panties, men's underwear, kids' underwear, socks, hosiery, casualwear and activewear.  The company's brands include Hanes, Champion, Playtex, DIM, Bali, Maidenform, Flexees, JMS/Just My Size, Wonderbra, Nur Die, Lovable and Gear for Sports.

Hanesbrands is the largest seller of apparel essentials in the United States as measured by sales. In a recent survey, Hanesbrands products could be found in eight out of 10 American households. They are sold in thousands of stores, plus on the Web and by catalog.

Hanesbrands operates most of its manufacturing facilities. 90% of apparel items sold are manufactured in its own plants or dedicated contractors.

The company has employees in 35 countries.

In 2014, the company reported sales of $5.32 billion, a 15% increase, and net income of $404.5 million.

HanesBrands bought Maidenform Brands, Inc., in October 2013, adding the Maidenform, Lilyette and Flexees intimate apparel brands to its portfolio.

In 2014, the company bought DBApparel, a leading marketer of intimate apparel, hosiery and underwear in Europe for $528 million. DBApparel has 6,200 employees.

"We had another outstanding year in 2014, generating significant shareholder value and again achieving record results for sales, operating profit and EPS," Hanes Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Noll said. "We are in the midst of a multiyear period of strong growth supported by our powerful company-owned global supply chain, Innovate-to-Elevate product platforms, and acquisitions."

The company's origins began in 1901 when J. Wesley Hanes founded Shamrock Mills, a manufacturer of men's hosiery.

In 1902, Wesley's brother Pleasant Hanes founded the P.H. Hanes Knitting Company and introduced two-piece men's underwear. In 1910, Shamrock Mills changes its name to Hanes Hosiery Mill and begins to make women's hosiery. In 1920, Hanes Knitting expands into undershirts, briefs, sleepwear and knitted shorts.

In 1965, the brother's two companies would merge to form Hanes Corporation, believed to be the only merger of two companies bearing the same family name.

In 1972, L'eggs is formed as its own company and becomes the most successful hosiery brand ever. The famous Hanes Beefy-T shirt is launched in 1975.

In 1979, Hanes merges with Consolidated Foods Corporation and eventually becomes part of Sara Lee.

Hanes would sign Michael Jordan in 1989 as company spokesperson.

Wonderbra made its debut in 1994.

Hanesbrands was spunoff from Sara Lee in September 2006 as an independently-traded company.

Hanesbrands Inc. provides a variety of benefits that include medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, retirement savings with a company match, adoption assistance and an employee assistance program.
