through a network of independent insurance agents. The company
has customers in 11 states and the District of Columbia including
Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, North Carolina, New York, Ohio,

Erie is the holding company for Erie Indemnity,
which provides sales, underwriting and administrative services
to Erie Insurance Exchange, a reciprocal insurance exchange.
The company is also engaged in property/casualty insurance through
its three subsidiaries and retains common stock in Erie Family
Life, an affiliated life insurance company.
The company was founded in 1925 as an Pennsylvania
auto insurer. It is the 14th largest U.S. automobile insurer
based on premiums written. Erie has more than 3.7 million policies
in force.
