History

In 1896, W.H. Lawrence manufactured the first consumer battery to power home telephones. The battery weighed under three pounds! Two years later, a Russian immigrant, Conrad Hubert was using these batteries to power his novelty item -- an electric hand torch, also known as the first flashlight. In 1902, the first Ever Ready trademark appeared on end caps of flashlights.

The two got together in 1905 to form what is now Energizer Battery. The Eveready brand was introduced in 1906.

In 1956, the first 9-volt battery was introduced and the first commercially available watch battery in 1957.

In 1980, the Energizer brand was introduced. The Energizer Bunny made its TV debut in 1989.

Energizer Holdings was created in 2000 as a spinoff from Ralston-Purina.

In 2003, Energizer bought Schick-Wilkinson Sword from Pfizer for $930 million.

Energizer Holdings acquired Playtex Products for $1.9 billion in a deal that closed on October 1, 2007. Playtex is a maker of skin care, feminine care and infant care products. Brands include Banana Boat, Hawaiian Tropic, Wet Ones, Playtex gloves, Playtex tampons, Playtex infant feeding products, and Diaper Genie.

In 2012, the company acquired Stayfree pad, Carefree liner and o.b. tampon feminine hygiene brands in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean.
