History
In 1896, W.H. Lawrence manufactured the
first consumer battery to power home telephones. The battery
weighed under three pounds! Two years later, a Russian immigrant,
Conrad Hubert was using these batteries to power his novelty
item -- an electric hand torch, also known as the first flashlight.
In 1902, the first Ever Ready trademark appeared on end caps
of flashlights.
The two got together in 1905 to form what
is now Energizer Battery. The Eveready brand was introduced in
1906.
In 1956, the first 9-volt battery was introduced
and the first commercially available watch battery in 1957.
In 1980, the Energizer brand was introduced.
The Energizer Bunny made its TV debut in 1989.
Energizer Holdings was created in 2000
as a spinoff from Ralston-Purina.
In 2003, Energizer bought Schick-Wilkinson
Sword from Pfizer for $930 million.
