CNO is a holding company with insurance subsidiaries - Bankers Life and Casualty Company, Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company and Washington National Insurance Company.The company serves working American families and seniors by helping them protect against financial adversity and provide for a more secure retirement. There are 1,600 employees at the company's Carmel headquarters, 550 employees in Chicago at Bankers Life and Casualty and 400 employees working in Philadelphia at Colonial Penn Life. In 2009, Conseco reported revenues of $4.34 billion and net income of $85.7 million. History 1979 - The company is incorporated as Security National of Indiana Corp. (SNI). The primary activity of the company until 1982 is raising capital. Its offices are located in Carmel, IN. 1982 - The company begins insurance operations by acquiring Executive Income Life Insurance Co. (which was later renamed Security National Life Insurance Co.--SNL). 1983 - The company acquires Consolidated National Life Insurance Co. (CNL) and combines its operations with those of SNL. 1984 - SNI changes its name to Conseco, Inc 1985 - Conseco acquires Lincoln American Life Insurance Co. (LAL). 1986 - Conseco acquires Bankers National Life Insurance Co. (BNL) and stock begins trading on the NYSE. Conseco filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2002 and emerged in 2003.
