CenterPoint Energy operates in five primary businesses: electric transmission and distribution, natural gas distribution, interstate natural gas pipelines, field services, and competitive natural gas sales and services: Electric Transmission & Distribution (T&D) – We maintain the wires, poles and electric infrastructure serving our 5,000-square-mile electric service territory in the Houston metropolitan area. While CenterPoint Energy employees ensure the reliable delivery of power from power plants to homes and businesses, we neither generate power nor sell it to customers. The company provides electricity to 2.2 million customers. Natural Gas Distribution – We sell and deliver natural gas to 3.3 million homes and businesses in Arkansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas, including the high-growth areas of Houston and Minneapolis. Interstate Pipelines – We operate two interstate natural gas pipeline systems that together have 8,200 miles of pipe and transported 1.592 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in 2009. Field Services – Focused on the mid-continent region, we gather, treat and process natural gas, moving it from wellhead to pipeline. We also provide maintenance and technical services including our remote wellhead monitoring and measuring product: ServiceStar. Competitive Natural Gas Sales and Services – Our natural gas marketing business, CenterPoint Energy Services (CES), sells non rate-regulated natural gas and related services to approximately 11,100 commercial, industrial and wholesale customers located primarily in the eastern half of the United States. The company reported $7,45 billion in revenues for 2012, down from $8.45 billion, and net income of $417 million. Each plan includes prescription drug benefits for both retail and mail order service. The company also offers a dental plan option, along with an option for vision coverage. Life, Disability and Accident CenterPoint Energy provides long-term disability insurance at 50 percent of annual base salary, basic life insurance up to $50,000 and business travel accident insurance at no cost to employees. Employees have the option to purchase additional life, disability and accident coverage, long term care insurance to protect their income and build a secure future for their families. Savings and Retirement CenterPoint Energy helps employees plan for the future with two separate financial security plans. The company's Savings Plan allows contributions of up to 66 percent of eligible pay (1 to 50 percent pre-tax and/or 1 to 16 percent after-tax), and provides a dollar for dollar company match up to 6 percent of eligible pay. In addition, the company provides a cash balance Retirement Plan and contributes 5 percent of salary each year, along with an annual interest credit. Both plans are completely portable upon vesting. Employees are immediately 100 percent vested in the Savings Plan, and the Retirement Plan vests after 3 years of service.
