Cendant is a leader in travel and real
estate services. It is one of the largest hotel franchisors with
more than 6,400 hotels and 540,000 rooms on five continents under
the brands Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Ramada Inn, Amerihost Inn,
Super 8, Knights Inn, Travelodge and Wingate Inn.
Cendant announced last October that it
will separate into four separate publicly-traded divisions by
2006, one each for the company's real estate, travel distribution,
hospitality and vehicle rental businesses. Each division will
have a new name and the Cendant name will be retired.
Cendant is also involved in the car rental
business under Avis and Budget names. Avis is the second-largest
car rental company in the nation.
In addition, the company owns several travel
sites including Orbitz, eBookers, Cheaptickets.com and Lodging.com.
In July, Cendant announced it will sell
TravelPort, its travel subsidiary, to the Blackstone Group for
$4.3 billion.
Cendant has a major presence in the real
estate industry with brokerage firms Century 21, Coldwell Banker,
ERA and Sotheby's International Realty. It also is a leader in
relocation services and marketing.
In 2005, the company reported revenues
of $18.2 billion and net income of $1.3 billion.
