History

The company was first founded as NetStart Inc. in 1995. In 1998, NetStart is renamed CareerBuilder Inc. and CareerBuilder.com is launched with 16 media partners.

CareerBuilder would complete an IPO in 1999. By 2000, the company joins forces with media giants Tribune and Knight Ridder, merging with CareerPath, to form one of the largest career networks on the Web.

In 2001, through a partnership with Tribune and Knight Ridder, CareerBuilder.com becomes the exclusive print recruitment service provider for major metropolitan newspapers throughout the United States and provides jobs and career resources for over 35 of the country's online local news and information sites. The company would acquire Headhunter.net.

On October 2, 2002, Gannett Co. joins forces with Knight Ridder and Tribune Company as equal partners of CareerBuilder.com.

In 2005, CareerBuilder launched a major marketing campaign which included ads in the Super Bowl featuring monkeys at work.

    Selected CareerBuilder.com employees have the opportunity to take leadership classes taught by professors from University of Chicago, Northwestern University, other leading universities and business professionals in the community.
  • Education Reimbursement Program
    CareerBuilder.com believes education and training are of utmost importance and, so has implemented a program to assist our employees in furthering their education. Full-time employees are eligible to receive up to $10,000 per calendar year depending on the type of degree program the employee is seeking.
  • Employee Assistance Program
    CareerBuilder.com has partnered with Ceridian to provide an avenue through which employees may seek assistance for personal and/or work related issues that affect their lives. Full-time and part-time regular status employees are eligible to participate in the plan starting on their date of hire.
  • Employee Referral Program
    Full-time and part-time employees are eligible to refer candidates. If the candidate is hired, a bonus of $1500 is paid out for the referral of a full-time employee and $750 for the referral of a part-time employee.     CareerBuilder.com encourages employees to maintain a healthy lifestyle by facilitating their partnership in preventative health activities. Full-time and part-time employees are eligible to participate in the program.
  • 401(k) Program
    Full and part-time employees are eligible to participate in the CareerBuilder, LLC 401(k) Plan. Employees may begin contributing to the plan on the first day of the month following their hire date. CareerBuilder.com will also make employer-matching contributions in an amount equal to 50% of the first 6% of an employee's salary deferral. Employees are 50% vested after year one and 100% vested after two years of service.
  • Foundation in Education
    CareerBuilder.com matches any full-time employee's contribution made to a non-profit organization with a focus on education up to $500 per calendar year. In addition, active full-time employees in good standing receive 2 paid days off per year for community service volunteer work at an approved organization and four hours off per quarter to volunteer at a public or private school (preschool to grade 12).
  • Life Insurance and AD&D
    Full-time employees are eligible for company paid life insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage equal to two times their base salary up to a maximum of $500,000.

  • Flexible Spending Accounts
    Full-time employees are eligible to contribute pre-tax dollars to pay for IRS approved health care and/or dependent care expenses. Employees may contribute $5000 to the healthcare account and $5000 to the dependent care account each plan year.
  • Short-term Disability
    Full-time employees are eligible for disability coverage the 1st of the month following 90 days of employment. This plan includes up to 13 weeks of coverage.
  • Long-term Disability
    Long-term disability benefits are provided for full-time employees.
  • Maternity Leave Coverage
    Full-time regular status employees, after 90 days of employment, are eligible to receive coverage paid at 100% of their total compensation for 6 weeks (base and bonus averaged over the past six months).
  • Paternity Leave Coverage
    This plan includes coverage paid, after 90 days of employment, at 100% of base salary for 1 week to active full-time regular status employees, for the birth or adoption of a child. This benefit must be used within the first 30 days of the birth.
