CareerBuilder is one of the top Internet career sites with more than 20 million visitors a month and over 1 million jobs.

The site is privately held and jointly-owned by three of the nation's top newspaper companies: Gannett Co., Tribune Company, and Knight Ridder, Inc.

CareerBuilder.com powers the career centers for more than 800 online partners that collectively reach national, local, industry and niche audiences. These include more than 170 newspaper websites and leading portals such as America Online and MSN.

The company has headquarters in Chicago with technology center in Norcross, GA. The company recently launched a new site for college students and alumni at CBcampus.com.

History

The company was first founded as NetStart Inc. in 1995. In 1998, NetStart is renamed CareerBuilder Inc. and CareerBuilder.com is launched with 16 media partners.

CareerBuilder would complete an IPO in 1999. By 2000, the company joins forces with media giants Tribune and Knight Ridder, merging with CareerPath, to form one of the largest career networks on the Web.

In 2001, through a partnership with Tribune and Knight Ridder, CareerBuilder.com becomes the exclusive print recruitment service provider for major metropolitan newspapers throughout the United States and provides jobs and career resources for over 35 of the country's online local news and information sites. The company would acquire Headhunter.net.

On October 2, 2002, Gannett Co. joins forces with Knight Ridder and Tribune Company as equal partners of CareerBuilder.com.

In 2005, CareerBuilder launched a major marketing campaign which included ads in the Super Bowl featuring monkeys at work.
