History
Stephen Hanson is the founder and president of BR Guest. The company was born in 1987 when he opened the Coconut Grill restaurant on the Upper East Side of New York City. In the early 1970s, Stephen had cut his teeth as a maitre d' at the the original TGI Friday's. Stephen's career has spanned industries as diverse as fashion manufacturing, commodities trading, nightclubs, and, of course, now, hospitality.
Blue Water Grill opened in Union Square in NYC in 1996.
Ruby Foo restaurant opened on the Upper West Side in 1999 and a Times Square location in 2000.
BR Guest sells a 50% stake to Starwood Capital for $150 million in 2007.
