Career Site
Benihana operates a leading chain of Japanese restaurants with 95 restaurants nationwide which include 63 Benihana teppanyaki restaurants, seven Haru sushi restaurants, 25 RA Sushi Bar Restaurants and 15 other franchised Benihana restaurants operating in the U.S., Latin America and Caribbean.
Benihana restaurants are traditional Japanese-style
hibachi steakhouses - called "teppanyaki." At Benihana,
your meal is prepared and served by a performing chef, right
at your table. The chef slices and cooks the meal in a spectacular
way. Diners can choose from a variety of fresh sushi and other
Japanese favorites.
The menus are simple and distinctive; the teppanyaki menu consists of top sirloin, tender poultry, seafood and vegetarian entrees. Steak is the most popular item at Benihana but sushi is also becoming more popular
In 2012, Benihana was acquired by Angelo, Gordon & Co. and is now a privately held company.
History
Rocky Aoki opened the first Benihana restaurant in New York in 1964 with just four tables. Benihana means "red flower" in Japanese. Guests were amazed by the highly trained chefs who would slice and dice beef, chicken and shrimp and flip them in the air as they prepared the food teppanyaki style right in front of them.
The company acquired RA Sushi in 2003 with four units in Arizona.
By bringing Japanese food into the mainstream and pioneering its entertaining style of presentation, Benihana has also paved the way in America for the popularity of other Japanese cooking styles and food products. Sushi is now a favorite all over the U.S. and soy sauce has become a staple in numerous American kitchens, all thanks to Benihana.
