Bebe designs and develops fashionable clothing and accessories for women. The store's target customer is 21 to 34-year-old women who are looking for trendy clothing.
Bebe's product offering includes a full range of separates, tops, sweaters, dresses, active wear and accessories in the following lifestyle categories: career, evening, casual and active. The company designs and develops the majority of its merchandise in-house, which is manufactured to specifications. The remainder of merchandise is sourced directly from third-party manufacturers.
Products are marketed under the bebe, BEBE SPORT, bbsp and 2b bebe brand names through our 253 retail stores, of which 216 are bebe stores, 36 are 2b bebe stores and 1 is a bebe accessories store. These stores are located in 36 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada.
Licensees also operate 56 international stores. The company expects to open approximately 2 bebe stores, including 1 bebe shop-in-shop in Japan, and 3 2b bebe stores during the remainder of fiscal 2011.
Bakers stores are targeted to women age 12-29. Wild Pair stores offer edgier, faster fashion-forward footwear that reflects the attitude and lifestyles of both women and men between the ages of 17 and 24.
In the six months ending January 2011, Bebe reported sales of $251.4 million. Net loss for the six months was $3.88 million.
History
Manny Mashouf founded the company with the first Bebe store boutique opening in San Francisco in 1976. At that time, three categories dominated the women's wear market: junior, bridge and missy. Having discovered a demographic that was neither junior nor bridge, Manny aimed to break the mold, offering this under represented population of stylish women inspirational, sexy fashion.
