Bally Total Fitness is the largest and
only nationwide commercial operator of fitness centers, with
over 400 facilities located in 29 states, Mexico, Korea, China
and the Caribbean under the Bally Total Fitness and Bally Sports
Clubs brands. Bally's has about 4 million members.
Bally centers offer exercise bikes, treadmills,
weight lifting and group classes like yoga, pilates and aerobics.
Extensive multilevel aerobic programs include Spinning, Step,
Low Impact, High Impact, Body Sculpting, Stretch/Yoga, CardioBox,
Interval/Circuit, and Aqua.
In June 2007, the company filed for Chapter
11 bankruptcy protection and sold its Toronto, Canada facilities
to Extreme Fitness, Inc. and GoodLife Fitness Centres Inc., for
approximately $18 million.
The company emerged from bankruptcy in
2007 and is now owned by Harbinger Capital.
Bally's says it has 23,500 on-site staff
members including 6,700 group exercise instructors and 3,500
Personal Trainers.
