History
In 1919, Robert Wilson Baird was named
lead partner of a new investment firm called The First Wisconsin
Company, the securities arm of the First Wisconsin National Bank.
He would soon be named President of First Wisconsin Company.
In 1939, the company name is changed to
The Wisconsin Company. Mr. Baird would play a key role in the
formation of the National Association of Securities Dealers.
He would become the NASD's third chairman.
In 1948, The Wisconsin Company purchased
a seat on the NY Stock Exchange. Because firms joining the NYSE
used the name of their lead partner, the company was renamed
Robert W. Baird and Company.
Baird Co. would join the Northwestern Mutual
family of companies in 1982.
In 2004, Baird would become an independent,
