Each store carries an extensive line for cars, sport utility vehicles, vans and light trucks, including new and remanufactured hard parts, maintenance items and accessories. History On July 4, 1979, the very first Auto Shack opened in Forrest City, AR. Doc Crain was the first store manager. The store was committed to quality control of its parts and products to customers. The company changed its name from Auto Shack to AutoZone in 1987 and went public on the NYSE in 1991.
