History
The company was started in 1924 when Paul
Blazer was named general manager of Ashland Refining Company
of Ashland, KY, a refining arm of Swiss Oil Company of Lexington.
Principal operation was a small refinery in Catlettsburg.
Ashland would grow to include Valvoline,
chemical and petroleum businesses. In 2005, Ashland sold interest
in its petroleum division to Marathon Oil.
