Aeropostale, Inc. is a mall-based, specialty
retailer of casual apparel and accessories, primarily aimed at
11 to 18 year-old young women and men. The company provides customers
with a focused selection of high-quality, active-oriented, fashion
and fashion basic merchandise at values prices including denims,
sweaters, t-shirts and sleepwear.
Aeropostale maintains control over its
proprietary brands by designing, sourcing, marketing and selling
all of its own merchandise. Aeropostale products are currently
purchased only in its stores, on-line through its website or
at organized sales events at college campuses.
The company currently 894 Aéropostale stores in 49 states and Puerto Rico, 40 Aéropostale stores in Canada and 11 P.S. from Aéropostale stores in four states.
The P.S. from Aéropostale brand offers trendy merchandise at great values for girls and boys ages seven to twelve. The Company plans to open a total of approximately 10 stores, primarily in the New York metropolitan area, during fiscal 2009.
The first Aéropostale store opened
in 1987.
Total net sales for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2009 increased 19% to $1.886 billion, from $1.591 billion a year ago. Net income increased 16% to a record $149.4 million.
