Aéropostale , Inc. is a mall-based, specialty retailer of casual apparel and accessories, principally targeting 14 to 17 year-old young women and men through its Aéropostale stores and 7 to 12 year-old kids through its P.S. from Aéropostale stores. The Company provides customers with a focused selection of high-quality, active-oriented, fashion and fashion basic merchandise at compelling values.
Aéropostale maintains control over its proprietary brands by designing, sourcing, marketing and selling all of its own merchandise. The company sells clothing including denims, sweaters, t-shirts and sleepwear.
The Company currently operates 744 Aeropostale stores in 50 states and Puerto Rico, 41 Aeropostale stores in Canada and 41 P.S. from Aeropostale stores in Canada and 25 P.S. from Aeropostale stores in 12 states. In addition, pursuant to various licensing agreements, licensees currently operate 322 Aeropostale and P.S. from Aeropostale locations in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
Total net sales for fiscal 2015 decreased 18% to $1.5 billion, from $1.839 billion a year ago. Net loss for the year was $141.8 million.
Net revenues from the Company's e-commerce business declined 8.6%.
Aeropostale has been hurt by declining sales and increased competition in teen clothing market. The company says it is exploring options including a sale of the company and has closed stores over the past several years.
The first Aéropostale store opened in 1987.
